Before the commencement of the 2023/24 season, it became clear that the English midfielder was likely to leave Borussia Dortmund.
The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United were all touted as potential landing spots for the Stourbridge native, but ultimately it was Los Blancos whom the attacking midfielder signed for.
One of the favourites to lure Bellingham back to England was also Liverpool. The Reds were restructuring their midfield after the departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner, and it was understood that the Merseysiders had earmarked him as a player who could succeed the trophy-laden trio.
However, it was Madrid who won the race for the Englishman's signature, and the 21-year-old has been incredibly successful since his high-profile switch.
"It wasn't as close as it was said," the 40-time international said, according to Goal.
