As things stand, next year is expected to be Messi's final year as a professional, but there is still a possibility he could continue playing into 2026.
The Argentina legend is still representing his country despite his age, with many of his international teammates hoping he avails himself for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The feeling is that Messi will be available for the world champions, particularly should he extend his contract with Inter Miami, which is due to expire at the end of 2025.
According to TyC Sports, the Herons are already preparing to offer the eight-time Ballon d'Or an extension that would see him stay at the club until the end of the 2026 MLS season.
Messi is reportedly open to signing the renewal proposal as he has settled comfortably in Miami, having made the move there in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
His good friend and colleague Luis Suarez recently penned a new deal in the States until the end of 2025.
