Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly being targeted by one of his former sides for a move in the January transfer window.
Ronaldo is the final year of his contract with the Red Devils, but he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this campaign.
The 37-year-old was dropped from the squad last week against Chelsea for refusing to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham Hotspur and left the stadium before the match finished.
Ten Hag Makes Bold Ronaldo Prophecy
However, it seems there may be a way out for five-time Ballon d'Or winner as the Mirror report his former club Sporting Lisbon are ready to make an offer.
Should any deal take place, the reports add that the Red Devils would need to pay off a chuck of Ronaldo's big-money wages, which reportedly stands at £500,000-a-week.
The Portuguese outfit would also offer Ronaldo the chance to play UEFA Champions League football should they progress to the round of 16 next week.
Sporting coach Ruben Amorim says everyone at the club is dreaming for Ronaldo return to the club that gave him his chance.
"Everyone at Sporting dreams of Ronaldo's return, but we don't have the money for his salary," Amorim said, as per the Daily Mail.
Should Ronaldo leave in January, a number of reports in England claim that Erik ten Hag would need to find a replacement as they would be without a recognised striker for the remainder of the season.
