A new report from Spanish outlet Cadena SER has revealed that Messi is eager for David Beckham to hire Xavi Hernández as the next manager of Inter Miami.
The 37-year-old Argentine forward, who has enjoyed a successful first season in the MLS, is reportedly keen on reuniting with his former Barcelona teammate, with whom he shared nearly 400 appearances at Camp Nou.
Xavi, who left his post at Barcelona at the end of the 2023/24 season, is currently without a managerial role. During his time with the Catalan giants, Xavi secured several major honours, including the 2022/23 La Liga title and the 2023 Spanish Super Cup.
His managerial career also includes a trophy-laden stint with Al Sadd in Qatar, where he won the Qatar Stars League, Qatar Cup, Sheikh Jassim Cup, Emir of Qatar Cup, and the Qatari Stars Cup, bringing his total trophy count to seven.
It's clear why Messi would be keen on Xavi's appointment, as the pair forged a strong bond at Barcelona. However, despite Messi's reported desire to see Xavi take the helm at Inter Miami, there is a significant obstacle in the way.
Renowned Spanish journalist Guillem Balague recently stated that Xavi would likely reject any approach from the MLS side.
According to Balague, the Spaniard is keen to take a break from football before returning to management, with a preference for a move to a European league, particularly the Premier League, when he resumes his coaching career.

As a result, while Messi's hopes of reuniting with Xavi in Miami may be high, it appears that Beckham will need to look elsewhere for a new head coach.
