One of Inter Miami's club chiefs has responded to rumours Lionel Messi could return to Barcelona on loan after he went close to rejoining the Catalan club earlier in this window.

Prior to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's formal agreement with the MLS side, rumours across Europe claimed that Inter Miami and the Blaugrana had discussed a potential deal that would have seen him head back to Spain on a short-term contract.
This came after the 36-year-old's decision to take his career to the United States in favour of waiting for an offer from Barcelona, but the reported collaborative idea and effort did not materialise.
According to co-owner of the Herons Jorge Mas, Messi could very well be handed a proper goodbye at the Camp Nou in the future, but not in the form of a loan move.
"I don't know if it's some type of friendly or farewell game," he said on the Offside with Taylor Twellman podcast.
"They have this Gamper Trophy they play for in the summer. But there will be something where, hopefully when the new Camp Nou is open, because their stadium there they will not be playing in for the next year and a half, hopefully, Lionel Messi can say his proper goodbye.
"That does not entail playing for Barcelona. He's not going to go on loan there. That's not going to happen.
"Yes, he deserves his correct goodbye there. Yes, and I will do everything in my power in order to facilitate and help him do that."
