The Frenchman has entered the final 12 months of his deal in France, and has been made available by PSG, whose president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is looking to avoid losing him as a free agent in 2024.
Mbappe has been handed an ultimatum by Les Parisiens' chief, leading to several clubs across the world reportedly expressing their interest in his signature, including Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia and teams in Europe.
While it is thought that the 24-year-old wants to play for Real Madrid, Liverpool have consistently been linked with France's leading man over the past two seasons.
Klopp, however, has admitted that the speculation is not rooted in reality due to the figures the Merseyside club would need to come up with.
"We laugh about it," he said, according to Goal.
"I can say that I think he's a really good player, but the financial conditions don't suit us at all. I wouldn't like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there's nothing to it.
"But it's possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me, but that hasn't happened in the eight years that I've been here.
"That would be the first time."
