The president of a football club in Brazil has claimed that Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will not be signed as he would only be a substitute for his team.
Man Utd To Replace Ronaldo With Shock African Star?
Many clubs have been credited with an interest in the 37-year-old forward in recent months amid his desire to leave Old Trafford, including Brazilian giants Flamengo.
President of the South American side Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, however, has laughed off the rumours that Ronaldo's signature could be pursued by his club, insisting he would never fork out millions only for the forward to be on the bench.
"I don't know where it came from but they have a lot of creativity," he told the 'Papo Reto' podcast, as reported by Record.
"First of all, I ask: For whose place? It's to be on the bench.
"From what I've read on the internet, I don't know if it's true or not, he would have been offered $242million [£215m] for a two-year contract. Divided by 24 months, that's about $10m a month.
"Talk about a value far above the entire salary sheet of Flamengo for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"To be Pedro or Gabigol's [Gabriel Barbosa] substitute? I can't… nobody here is going to go crazy things."
Ronaldo has endured a difficult 2022/23 campaign so far, with some United fans reportedly voicing their frustration with their No. 7 in the team's away win over Real Sociedad on Thursday night in the UEFA Europa League.
The Portuguese has scored just three goals in 15 matches this season, and continues to be linked with a move away from the 20-time English champions ahead of the January window.
