Despite Sir Alex Ferguson being regarded by many as the greatest manager of all time, Wayne Rooney has revealed the two occasions when he believes the former Manchester United boss got it all wrong.
'He Has His Heart Set On Man Utd'
The Red Devils won the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League final after beating Chelsea on penalties, and qualified for the final another two times over the next few seasons, but lost out on both occasions to Pep Guardiola's FC Barcelona.
United were defeated 2-0 in Rome in 2009, while they lost 3-1 two years later at Wembley, with the Catalan giants dominating possession in both of those matches.
Speaking about those two losses to the Blaugrana, Rooney is firm in his belief that his former manager took the wrong approach, albeit for the right reasons.
"It's always hard for a club like Real (Madrid) to go into a game saying, 'We'll surrender the ball'. It is the same for United," the former England captain told The Sunday Times.
"But we lost two Champions League finals going toe-to-toe with Guardiola's Barcelona, by trying to press high and get round them, which was suicidal.

"I remember Alex Ferguson saying, 'We're Man United and we're going to attack, it's in the culture of this football club' and thinking, 'I'm not too sure about this'.
"I think all the players knew, deep down, it was the wrong approach, that we were abandoning the way that had brought us success in that 2008 semi-final, and sure enough, both times, we got outplayed."
