According to the Daily Telegraph, the Red Devils are expected to soon come to a decision over the one-time England international.
Greenwood has been suspended by the club since his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour.
The charges he was facing were dropped earlier this year, but United have still not reintroduced him to the squad, with manager Erik ten Hag having on multiple occasions insisted the decision will come from the club.
New reports, however, suggest that the 20-time English champions are set to communicate their call on Greenwood before the Premier League season begins next weekend.
United will get the new campaign underway against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on 14 August, a game in which new arrivals Mason Mount and Andre Onana are likely to participate.
Greenwood, while not training with the first-team squad, has been spotted keeping fit ahead of the coming season.

Reports suggest that the talented forward, who has previously been linked with clubs in Italy and Turkey, is desperate to return to action at the Red Devils, although United are yet to indicate whether or not he will.
