Pressure continues to mount on the 54-year-old Dutch tactician, whose United side have claimed only three wins across all competitions so far this term.
While there are contrasting reports over his future at the 20-time English champions, the feeling is that Ten Hag needs results and consistent performances from his players in order to save his job.
The latest backlash comes after the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, with more tricky fixtures on the horizon for Ten Hag and his side.
High-profile managers Massimiliano Allegri and Thomas Tuchel have since been linked with the position many expect to become vacant this season, but rumours suggest United's players would welcome the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The ex-United striker is currently working as an assistant to Ten Hag in England, having returned to Manchester on the recommendation of his compatriot to try to help restore the club's status in the Premier League.
According to the Daily Star, United's players would encourage INEOS to give Van Nistelrooy the role should they decide to part ways with Ten Hag.
