One of Manchester United's out-on-loan stars has been handed a seven-match ban for kung-fu kicking an opponent during a cup encounter.
Werner Sends Warning To Big-Money Chelsea Signing
Ivorian Eric Bailly, who is spending the season on loan at Olympique Marseille, saw red 15 minutes into his side's Coupe de France encounter against French fourth division team Hyeres two weeks ago, after he planted his boot into the chest of opposition player Moussa N'Diaye during his club's 2-0 victory.
N'Diaye was later sent to the hospital and is said to have suffered broken ribs as well as damage to both his liver and lungs from the challenge.
While a standard red card in French football would constitute a three-game ban, the severity of Bailly's tackle has now seen the French Football Federation's disciplinary committee impose a harsher punishment of a seven-match suspension on the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winner, according to Le Provence.
The 28-year-old has already served two matches for the ban, having watched Marseille secure two-goal victories against both Troyes and Lorient in the league, and will now be ineligible for the French giants' next five domestic tussles.
The suspension compounds the defender's frustrations as, at the beginning of the campaign, Bailly arrived at the Stade Velodrome from United on loan to regain form by playing more often; however, that has not been the case for him.
The Bingerville native has donned the famous white and sky blue of the Olympians only 12 times in all competitions so far this campaign, with injuries curtailing his time in the south of France.
Report: Dani Alves To Be Arrested
The central defender has missed seven games this season because of leg injuries, and with Marseille continuing to win in Bailly's absence, it does not bode well for his prospects of immediately returning to the starting XI.
Igor Tudor's men have won five of their past six league matches in which the west African has either been suspended or injured.
