Manchester United Transfer Plans: 9 Players Who Could Leave

After Manchester United secured qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League, they are expected to have a busy transfer window, and as many as nine players, including the club's top earner, could reportedly soon leave.

The Red Devils finished in third place after going unbeaten for 14 games in the Premier League and overtaking Chelsea as well as Leicester City on the second-last matchday of the 2019/20 campaign.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be keen to strengthen in three positions, but also needs to get rid of some deadwood in the squad, and as many as nine players could leave, according to The Times.

One of the first names on the exit list is Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to return to Manchester following his loan at Inter Milan. His whopping salary, said to be worth €500 000 (R9.7 million) a week, is still partly paid by the EPL club, but Inter are believed to be interested in signing him on a permanent basis.

According to reports in Italy, the Nerazzurri are willing to pay 10 million (R194 million) for his services, while United are holding out for 20 million (R388 million).

Similar to Sanchez, Chris Smalling has also been spending the 2019/20 campaign on loan in Serie A. Despite having a good season with AS Roma, the Englishman does not seem to be in Solskjaer's plans for the club, but the Gialorossi, Inter and Juventus have been linked with permanent moves for him.

Marcos Rojo was also sent out on loan in January, but only made one appearance for boyhood club Estudiantes before the break in football due to the coronavirus. His agent recently stated that the Argentine's departure from Old Trafford in the coming weeks seems likely, but it remains to be seen whether or not he returns to his home country.
