As per The Telegraph, the Red Devils are keen on adding defensive stability to the right-back position as soon as the beginning of 2023.
Erik ten Hag has been pleased with the form of Diogo Dalot so far this campaign, with the 23-year-old the only outfield player to start all 19 of United matches this season, but wants to provide the Portuguese with better competition for his starting berth.
Competition for the Portugal international is a priority for the Mancunians but will only be brought in if they are able to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The London-born defender has been on the periphery of Ten Hag's plans this season, with the 24-year-old only playing four minutes of football all season and his playing time unlikely to increase.
The same report suggests that full-backs are integral to the way in which Ten Hag wishes to play. The Dutchman demands a lot physically, technically and in attack from his left and right-backs and doubts Wan Bissaka possess the abilities to help him succeed are prevalent.
The right-back position is a priority for the former Ajax Amsterdam manage, who has been keen on recruiting one since his arriving at Old Trafford. West Ham United and Crystal Palace were both interested in Wan-Bissaka's services during the off-season, but a deal failed to materialise for either side.
While it is unlikely that the record English champions recoup the £50 million (R1 billion) they spent on Wan-Bissaka, United are hoping the money theyget from his sale, coupled with his wages being off their books, they will raise enough funds to facilitate a new signing.
