Man Utd Owners Announce Sale Plans After Ronaldo Exit

Man Utd Owners Announce Sale Plans After Ronaldo Exit

Manchester United's controversial owners have announced their intention to "explore alternatives" just hours after the club confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo's departure.

Ronaldo Speaks Out On Man Utd Departure

On Tuesday evening, Sky Sports News reported that the Glazer family were working behind the scenes on a statement that would announce their decision to seek new investors, a move that would eventually lead to a full sale of the club.

This comes amid a turbulent time for the American owners, who have come under immense pressure in recent seasons, with United having failed to win a trophy since Jose Mourinho was in charge in 2017.

The Glazers were strongly criticised by Ronaldo in his interview last week with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, with the Portugal captain accusing them of not caring about the club, slamming the facilities and the lack of progression since his initial departure in 2009.

United's official website confirmed the news late on Tuesday.

"Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company's Board of Directors (the 'Board') is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club," a statement read, according to the club's website.

"The process is designed to enhance the club's future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalize on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially.

"As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company. This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club's commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the club's men's, women's and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders."

OFFICIAL! Man Utd Make Final Decision On Ronaldo Future

After early success under the Glazers following their takeover in 2005, the family have been subjected to fan protests in more recent years, having been accused of taking more money out of the club than they invest into it.

Pressure increased on the owners following the announcement of the European Super League in 2021, a plan they later ditched along with five other Premier League clubs.
