Alexis Sanchez has completed a permanent move to Inter Milan, bringing an end to an uneventful spell with Manchester United, and a club legend has now described his spell at Old Trafford as "an absolute disaster".
The Red Devils lured the Chile international to Old Trafford from rivals Arsenal in January 2018, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the other way.
The former FC Barcelona winger spent just one full season with United, though, before heading out to Inter on loan in August 2019.
Much was expected of Sanchez as he inherited the famous No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford, but after just 32 Premier League appearances, and three EPL goals over the course of one and a half seasons, it was clear that it was not a match made in heaven.
United legend Gary Neville did not hold his tongue when discussing the transfer, telling Sky Sports: "I thought he would be a forward who would play all across the line, who scored goals and was tenacious, but Sanchez has been an absolute disaster. I have no idea what's happened to him. There must be two of them. No one could have foreseen the disaster that was about to happen with Alexis Sanchez.
"That wasn't the Alexis Sanchez that played at Arsenal. He wasn't old when United signed him. He'd been proven. We knew United would get only a couple of years out of him, I know his wages were massive.
"But my point is, no one could have foreseen how bad he would be for the club."
