The Red Devils are believed to be considering a swoop for Brentford captain and England striker Ivan Toney.
According to The Athletic, the club's hierarchy has held internal talks over a potential move for the 28-year-old, who has scored 72 goals in 141 matches for the Bees.
This is despite the recent acquisition of Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A outfit Bologna. The 23-year-old operates predominantly as a striker, but can be used across the frontline.
Toney, a more traditional centre-forward, is seen as a player who could provide direct competition to last season's signing Rasmus Hojlund.
The Denmark international scored 16 goals in his debut campaign at the 20-time English champions, although went the first half of the season without finding the back of the net in the Premier League.
Brentford's Toney has been linked with a number of clubs in England, including Arsenal, with his current contract expiring in 2025.
