The 54-year-old has entered his third season in charge of the 20-time English champions, and fans are still waiting for the team to produce consistent performances.
Despite Ten Hag claiming the Carabao Cup in his first campaign and the FA Cup in his second, United's failure to come up with the goods in the Premier League have supporters worried about the rest of the season.
The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on the weekend, leading to reports that players in the squad expect Ten Hag to be replaced, although other rumours suggest that INEOS, the group in charge of United's footballing operations, will remain patient with the tactician.
They did go close to replacing the ex-Ajax Amsterdam head coach at the end of last season, despite the team's FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, with reports claiming Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his colleagues spoke to multiple candidates for the role before extending Ten Hag's contract.
Should United's form not improve dramatically, however, club chiefs might be forced to perform a U-turn on Ten Hag's future in England, but who might they consider for the job and who is currently available?
Here are eight available managers United could look to replace Ten Hag with should the team's poor form continue:
Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is still without a team following his departure from Los Blancos in 2021, while Xavi Hernandez is another tactician INEOS could look at after he left Barcelona earlier this year.
Ex-Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, former United manager David Moyes and former Chelsea coach Graham Potter are also available, as is 2014 FIFA World Cup-winning manager Joachim Low, who has not worked since 2021.
Arguably the most likely replacement for Ten Hag would be Thomas Tuchel. The German bid farewell to Bayern Munich at the end of last season and has been heavily linked with the United job in the past.

An outside shout could be Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is currently an assistant coach to Ten Hag at the English giants. A former United player himself, the retired Dutch forward impressed in his year-long spell as manager of PSV Eindhoven before he resigned due to feeling he was no longer supported by the club's board.
