Significant changes are expected at struggling Manchester United amid the current takeover rumours, and it could very well start with these six players leaving the club for free at the end of the season.

Changes expected?
Whether or not Erik ten Hag is there come next year, it appears more personnel changes will be in order come the end of the campaign. The Dutchman has had a say in getting a number of players out through the exit door since his appointment, and will perhaps do more of the same in January, but supporters and pundits alike believe there is still plenty of deadwood in the squad and that many of them need to be moved on. Here are six players who will leave the club for free in 2024 if their current contracts are not renewed!
Six players facing uncertain futures
Experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton, 37, will see his deal at Carrington expire in June next year. Given that he has not made a single appearance this season, not even with first-choice shot-stopper Andre Onana struggling for form, it appears unlikely at this point that the Englishman will have his stay in Manchester extended. Heaton, a United academy product, returned to the Red Devils in 2021 after 11 years and has only ever represented the team on three occasions at senior level.
Moving on, 35-year-old centre-back Jonny Evans is closing in on the final six months of his deal at United after he completed a surprise return to the club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. While fans of the club appreciate Evans for some his achievements in red in the past, his arrival earlier this year highlighted just how poor United's recruitment has been in recent years. Initially joining the pre-season team, Evans was later offered a one-year contract. Many will be hoping to see the back of him soon, though, regardless of the respect they have for him.
Sweden international Victor Lindelof will also be out of contract come July next year should the 20-time English champions decide against offering him new terms, along with defensive partner Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who, for a long time, was reportedly considered surplus to requirements under Ten Hag. He has since managed to turn things around for himself, but there hasn't been any talk about the 26-year-old's potential renewal being high on the club's priority list!

Further upfield, 20-year-old Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is also approaching the end of his stay on his current deal, although this could be a player Ten Hag and his coaching staff want to keep. While it has taken him a long time to break into the first-team squad, he has shown glimpses of his talent and tenacity, which are traits most United supporters believe is in thin supply at the moment. Lastly, Anthony Martial could become a free agent in 2024, and perhaps it would be best if the club doesn't look to change that. The 28-year-old Frenchman has battled for consistency since joining United in 2015, and has scored only 11 goals in 47 appearances under Ten Hag.
