Result: Bastia 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain
Date: 12 August 2016
Venue: Stade Armand Cesari
Paris Saint-Germain began life in Ligue 1 without Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a scrappy 1-0 win over Bastia on Friday evening.
Hatem Ben Afra was the only new signing to start, he led the PSG attack along with Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura.
The Ligue 1 champions dominated the opening exchanges with Di Maria causing havoc in the fina third, although they struggled to carve out clear-cut openings.
Bastia were content to sit back and soak up the pressure, with the hope catching the visitors on the break, as they did in the 25th minute when Sadio Diallo's strike from 20-yards out sailed inches wide of the upright.
While Lucas struggled to down the right flank, Di Maria continued to be PSG's biggest attacking threat on the night, but without a recognised striker on the pitch, chances were hard to come by in the box.
The Ligue 1 champions continued to dominate upon resumption of the second half, as Di Maria went close in the opening five minutes with a volley that forced Jean-Louis Leca into a fine save.
PSG coach Unai Emery handed former Real Madrid forward, Jese Rodriguez, his debut after the hour-mark and he's impact was immediate.
Jese latched onto a through ball from Di Maria, before forcing Leca into a low save, however Layvin Kurzawa was on hand to tap home the rebound to hand PSG the lead in the 73rd minute.
The PSG manager introduced midfielders, Blaise Matuidi and Marco Verratti for the closing stages, as Paris outfit begin the new season with three points.
