According to French journalist Romain Molina, the Atletico Madrid talisman has not completely closed off the idea of returning to Les Bleus.
The decision to call time on his career with the two-time FIFA World Cup winners is understood to have caught head coach Didier Deschamps off guard, with the 55-year-old reported to have been planning on calling up the diminutive goalscorer for their upcoming 2024/25 UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium and Israel.
The playmaking forward was said to feel undervalued at national level after Deschamps chose Kylian Mbappe as the successor to Hugo Lloris' as captain instead of him, and this played a major role in Griezmann's decision to retire.
However, the same report also claims that the former Barcelona and Real Sociedad man would return to the national team set-up if results suddenly turned bad for the 2000 UEFA European Championship winners, like Zidane did in 2005.
Following France's underwhelming performance at the 2004 European Championship, the then-Real Madrid superstar decided to call time on his international career, but his retirement coincided with a downturn in form for the European giants.
The French would draw seven of their next 10 international matches before Zidane decided to return against Ivory Coast in 2005.

Griezmann is said to only be open to coming back if this current iteration of the national team also suffer a similar fate as he seemingly wants to be seen as their saviour and gain the recognition he feels he deserves.
