The Argentine stole the show with a second-half brace as the Catalan giants thumped Athletic Bilbao 4-0 in the final.

Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong were the other two players to get on the scoresheet for Ronald Koeman's side.

The Catalan giants have now won three of the last five Copa del Rey titles, while also extended their record to 31 titles, eight more than Bilbao's 20.

Messi, who was named Man of the Match, lifted his seventh title in what could be his last season at the club, as his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The Catalan giants are still in the LaLiga title race, but trail Atletico Madrid by two points and that could be extended on Sunday.

After a difficult start to the season that was dominated by Messi's future and all the off-field drama, Blaugrana will be delighted to have claimed their first trophy since the 2018-2019 season.
