Spanish giants Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement regarding a surprising deal for a Brazilian star.
According to journalist Alfredo Duro, who was speaking on El Chiringuito TV at the time, the Catalan club is closing in on a move for Flamengo midfielder Gerson.
The 23-year-old had a failed spell in European football between 2016 and 2019, when he joined Roma from Fluminense but failed to make an impression.
Gerson spent the 2018/19 campaign on a season-long loan at Fiorentina, where he also struggled to make a long-lasting impact.
It is claimed the midfielder has enjoyed a renaissance since returning to Brazil, having made 95 appearances for Flamengo over the past two years.
Barcelona are now believed to have reached an agreement with the Brazilian club regarding his sale for a fee of €25 million (R431 million), which will come as a surprise to some given how he previously fared in Europe.
The Blaugrana are also in a dire financial situation amid the coronavirus pandemic, and will therefore need to be cautious as to how they reinforce their squad ahead of next season.
