The Blues took their spending inn this window to more than €200 million (R3.9 billion) when they signed Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The German wonderkid joined the Premier League side in a deal worth €80 million (R1.84 billion) plus another €20 million (R396 million) in add-ons. As a consequence, Havertz is the costliest player ahead of the new campaign so far.
The 21-year-old leaves Leverkusen having come through their academy before making his first-team debut in 2016.
Havertz, considered to be one of the brightest talents in European football, became Frank Lampard's sixth signing ahead of the new campaign.
The Chelsea signing is followed by new Juventus arrival Arthur Melo. The 24-year-old left FC Barcelona in a massive swap deal that saw Miralem Pjanic go the other way.
Arthur cost the Serie A giants €72 million (R1.4 billion), while Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen's €70 million (R1.39 billion) move from Lille to Napoli is the third-costliest deal of the window.
