Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a move from FC Barcelona to a shock Premier League club in the coming transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined with a meniscus injury since December, and it seems the Catalan giants are looking to offload their most expensive signing in history.
Coutinho joined Barcelona in a deal worth €135 million (R2.3 billion), plus add-ons, in 2018, but has since struggled to live up to expectations.
He was loaned out to Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 campaign, winning the treble with the Bundesliga champions. While out on loan, he made headlines for scoring a brace in Bayern's infamous 8-2 thrashing of his parent club, prompting new coach Ronald Koeman to give him a chance in his set-up this season.
However, injuries have set Coutinho back multiple times since and the Blaugrana are now reportedly considering cashing in on him in the coming window.
With the Spanish club's financial situation, they may be forced to sell some of their players, and Everton are said to be interested in Coutinho.
According to TZ and as cited by Marca, the Toffees are willing to offer Barca €40 million (R691 million) for the attacking midfielder.
The Premier League side has done a lot of business with the Blaugrana of late, signing the likes of Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.
However, it remains to be seen whether or not Coutinho would make the move to Goodison Park after previously running out for the club's Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
