Hummels has been linked with the Red Devils for a while, but decided to stay in Dortmund for at least another year.
"There have always been rumours about almost every one of our players, but I decided not to make the move this year," he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it's an honour. But I decided I wanted to stay here."
Hummels remains a pillar at the German side, which starts a new period after Jurgen Klopp was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
