The 29-year-old joined UAE side Al Ain in 2011, but is now on the verge of leaving them after Shanghai reportedly offered Al Ain €20 million.
"Something is happening," an Al Ain source told Sport 360.
"Very soon, everything will become clear about the situation.
"When you've received double the money you've paid for Gyan, you have to let him go."
Asamoah reportedly earns a whopping €228,000 (R3.1 million) at Al Ain, but would receive even more in China. The outfit of former England boss, Sven Goran Eriksson, has allegedly offered Gyan a weekly salary of €320,000 (R4.4 million).
Gyan was the UAE Pro-League's top scorer for the past three seasons, scoring 95 goals in just 83 league games since joining the club.
The Ghana star became Africa's top goal-scorer in World Cup history in 2014 and has been given permission to travel to China to complete the mega-money deal.
