Lionel Messi's former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested that the diminutive Argentine is destined to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Felix Linked With Shock Premier League Club
The polarising Swede shared the Camp Nou dressing room for a solitary season with Messi, in the 2009/10 campaign, and while he is often reluctant to hand out praise, he is fully aware how important the 35-year-old is to La Albiceleste's aspirations to winning the World Cup.
The Argentina captain has scored in all but one game at the global showpiece in Qatar, and Ibrahimovic believes it is time for the seven-time Ballon d'Or to hold the famous trophy aloft.
"I think it's already written who will win, and you know who I mean. I think Messi will lift the trophy, it's already written," Ibrahimovic, who represented Sweden at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, said, as per The National News.
The Paris Saint-Germain talisman spent a long time having not won a single international trophy with Argentina, but after winning the Copa America last year, the playmaker could well be adding the biggest prize of them all to his cabinet come 18 December.
First, however, Messi will need to overcome 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia on Tuesday night.
While speaking about the immediate future of his former teammate Messi, Ibrahimovic pivoted to the future of another football icon in Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 40-year-old forward, who spent two seasons with Manchester United, said of the Red Devils' parting of ways with international football's all-time leading goalscorer: "His exiting United, I think when things happen, we will never know the true story.
"They say what they want to say, he says what he needs to say to protect himself, then you have the coach that says these things to protect himself."
