Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario says he does not want Argentina superstar Lionel Messi to win the FIFA World Cup.
The Paris Saint-Germain star has already confirmed that the upcoming World Cup in Qatar will be his last after turning 34 in June.
Ronaldo Reveals He Wanted To Buy Premier League Club
The 34-year-old secured his first international trophy last year after leading Argentina to the Copa America title while beating rivals Brazil in the final.
Messi and Argentina suffered heartbreak in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil when they lost to Germany thanks to Mario Gotze's extra-time strike.
Ronaldo, who won the 2002 World Cup, says he doesn't want to see Messi lift the World Cup title due to the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina.
"If he nationalised for Spain," Ronaldo told The Guardian, when asked if he wanted Messi to win the World Cup.
"The Brazil-Argentina rivalry is so big. We had incredible battles, with respect, and that's the loveliest thing in football.
"But Argentina winning the World Cup doesn't bear thinking about. Does Messi deserve it? Of course he does – but not with my support. I love him and he'll understand because I'm sure he would feel exactly the same way."
The South American champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup.
