Reports suggest that Zinedine Zidane could be on his way back to club football as France look set to snub the legendary midfielder as their next head coach.

The French Football Federation is reportedly in the process of rewarding Didier Deschamps with a four-year extension after the 54-year-old led an injury-ravaged France side to within a penalty shootout of retaining their world championship crown, as per L'Equipe.
With the former Juventus boss winning the tournament in Russia in 2018, it seems he will once again be leading Les Bleus when the global showpiece heads to north America for its next instalment.
This means that Zidane will not be in the dugout for his nation after many expected the 1998 Ballon d'Or winner to take over the reins from Deschamps after Qatar 2022.
The Marseille native has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in June 2021 and was said to be keen to return to the managerial hot seat with his nation, but with his former France teammate seemingly on course for a contract renewal, the same report suggests that Zidane is now open to returning to club football.
After leaving Los Blancos, the Frenchman rebuffed offers from some of Europe's most illustrious teams in hopes of getting the France job.
The 50-year-old is said to have rejected offers from both Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain, but having missed out on his supposed dream gig, it seems the tactician will have to settle for club matters once again.

With both United and PSG having recently found new permanent managers, Zidane may have to look for another top club to manage.
His former team Juventus have been linked with the three-time UEFA Champions League-winning manager, and with the Italian club's executive currently in the middle of a restructuring, perhaps this leaves the door ajar for the 1998 World Cup winner's appointment.
