Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has labelled Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly "the Bayern Munich of Egypt" ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final on Monday evening.
The Bavarians only arrived in Qatar on Saturday after they were not allowed to take off on Friday when they were scheduled to do so.
The Red Devils are yet to suffer a defeat since Mosimane took over the Egyptian club's reigns in October 2020, having won the CAF Champions League, Egypt Cup and the CAF Super Cup during his stint in charge to date.
Kimmich is well aware of Al Ahly's credentials, but believes the UEFA Champions League holders are the favourites to win the tournament.
"We know that Al Ahly is a strong team, they are Bayern Munich of Egypt, and they have played many games without losing, but the Champions League champions are always the favourites to win the championship, and we want to confirm this," the Germany international said, according to his club's official Twitter account.
"This is a chance to write history. We are really motivated for our semi-final and then we'll see what comes next."
The semi-final is set to take place at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, with the encounter scheduled to get underway at 20:00 SA time.
