FIFA Club World Cup Semi-Final: Al Ahly v Bayern Munich

Pitso Mosimane suffered his defeat as Al Ahly head coach after his side lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals on Monday night.

FIFA Club World Cup Semi-Final

Result: Al Ahly 0-2 Bayern Munich

Date: 08 February 2021

Venue: Ahmed bin Ali Stadium

Bayern, who got a bye to this stage made three changes from their narrow win over Hertha Berlin, as Jerome Boateng and Alphonse Davies were recalled, alongside a rare start for Marc Roca while the Red Devils made only change from the win over Al-Duhail, as Kahraba started ahead of Walter Bwalya.

The Bavarians put Al Ahly under all sorts of pressure in the early exchanges as Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a blasting strike after a cut-back by Serge Gnabry.

Mosimane's charges were trying to get their foot on the ball. but they gifted Bayern too much space in the last third, as Lewandowski came close to adding a second for the German side eight minutes before the break after going through but lifted his strike over the bar.

The Egyptian side were pinned back into their own half in the closing phase of the first stanza as Bayern created chance after chance but a combination of not being clinical and good goalkeeping by Mohamed El-Shenawy saw Al Ahly trailing by an odd goal at the break.

Al Ahly came out with a bit more purpose in the second half, but Ayman Ashraf almost put the ball into his own net in the 68th minute while attempting to clear Benjamin Pavard's low cross that hit the side-netting.

Hans-Dieter Flick's troops were finding chances in the latter stages but they lacked their usual killer instinct, with Maxim Choupo-Moting heading a cross straight at El Shenawy from close range in the last 20 minutes while Corentin Tolisso struck a shot over the bar from a promising position moments later.

However, Lewandowski finally killed off the game for the Bavarians in the last four minutes with a close-range header into a gaping net after a sublime cross by Leroy Sane to complete his brace.

In the end, 2-0 was how the enounter finished as booked a spot in the final against U.A.N.L Tigres on Thursday evening while Al Ahly will play in the third/fourth play-off against Palmeira.
