The Red Devils were still without Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau, although Amr El Soleya was thrown straight into the line-up after the Africa Cup of Nations final while Mohamed Sherif was named on the bench.
The Brazilian outfit were out for revenge after losing to Mosimane's charges in the third-place play-off at last year's tournament.
Palmeiras enjoyed a lot more of the ball in the first half but only managed to register one shot on target in the opening 20 minutes.
However, the South American champions got their reward in the 39th minute as Rafael Veiga found the back of the net after beating Al Ahly's offside trap.
while Al Ahly looked to get back on terms in the second half, Palmeiras went on to double their lead four minutes after the break courtesy of a strike from Dudu.
Mosimane responded with a double change on 54 minutes as Sherif and Hamdy Fathy replaced Hussein Elshahat and Rami Rabia.
The Red Devils had the ball in the back of the net with 18 minutes left on the clock, but the attempt was ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee.
To make matters worse, the Egyptian's finished the game with 10 men after Ayman Ashraf was shown a straight red card as Mosimane's charges will now look to secure the bronze medal for second straight year.
