Al Ahly's director of football Sayed Abdelhafiz has sent a warning to the team's next FIFA Club World Cup opponents after reaching the semi-final.
The Red Devils soldiered on without six first-team regulars against CF Monterrey and managed to secure a 1-0 win to advance to the semi-finals.
The Africa Cup of Nations final takes place on Sunday, which could see some of Al Ahly's Egyptian stars return for Tuesday' semi-final against Palmeiras.
Abdelhafiz says the South Americans will be seeking revenge after losing to Al Ahly in the bronze medal match last year.
"We were focused, concentrated, and didn't think of any external factors. Thank God we were able to deliver," Abdelhafiz said as per the club's website.
"The whole team became motivated to win especially after seeing the tough circumstances they were in prior to the game."
"Of course, Palmeiras will be looking forward to defeating us in the semi-finals, especially since we were able to win third place last year by defeating them in the bronze medal game. However, our players also have great ambitions to reach the final."
