Xavi 'Angry' With Barca Chiefs About Messi Talks

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez is reportedly upset with the club's chiefs for constantly bringing up Lionel Messi's potential return.

The Blaugrana are on the verge of clinching their first LaLiga title in four years as they are currently ahead of second-placed Real Madrid by 11 points.

However, according to El Confidencial, Xavi thinks their title triumph may be under serious threat if the club's hierarchy continues talking up the possible homecoming of Messi.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner left the Camp Nou in 2021 after the club was unable to renew his then-contract, with the Rosario native subsequently moving to Paris Saint-Germain.

Close to two years after his departure from Catalonia, Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed that they were in contact with the football icon ahead of a potential transfer while speaking at a press conference on Friday.

Xavi, however, played down talk of a Messi return to Barca prior to his side's 4-0 thrashing of Elche on Saturday.

"It is not time to talk about Leo's return," Xavi stressed in a pre-match press conference.

"I talk to him often, but now is not the time for the benefit of everyone: for the player himself, for the club, for the current squad.

"I wish that he can come back to help us. He's the best player in the world and in history."

Having won the Supercopa de Espana, the Blaugrana could still win a unique domestic treble this season as they are currently also ahead in their Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Los Blancos, but their Spanish tactician seemingly thinks the constant Messi talk could derail their season."

The same report suggests that Barca executives could be bringing the Argentine's name up in the press in a bid to divert attention away from the "referee bribery" scandal.
