Some surprising news emerged out of Catalonia this past weekend, with it rumoured that the Blaugrana are actively trying to part ways with veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The Germany international made his way to the Camp Nou last season, but after just one campaign playing in front of the Cules, it seems he is destined for the exit door.
This comes as a surprise given that the 33-year-old was an ever-present for the Spanish giants last season, starting in 33 LALIGA matches during the 2023/24 campaign.
For the start of the new season, however, Gundogan was not in the matchday squad for Barca's 2-1 win over Valencia, and this has fuelled speculation over a possible move.
With an exit seemingly on the horizon, the Gelsenkirchen native is angling for a move back to his former side Manchester City, according to Catalunya Radio.
Gundogan's final match as a Citizen was the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League final, in which he was captain in their 1-0 win over Inter Milan, and he is now reportedly trying to make a move back to the Etihad Stadium.
It was rumoured that the Sky Blues were, in fact, in favour of retaining his services once his contract expired last year, but Gundogan instead opted to make the switch to the five-time European champions.
