The protracted transfer saga linking Neymar with a return to Spain has drawn the headlines in recent weeks but Barca have other urgent business that needs attending to.
Jordi Alba is the club's only specialist left-back at the moment, and coach Ernesto Valverde is said to be looking at signing a cover option for the Spanish defender.
The Blaugrana have been strongly linked with a move for Real Betis defender Junior Firpo, who the Catalan club apparently also sees as Alba's long-term successor, but the player's €60 million (R949 million) release clause has proved to be a stumbling block.

Bayern Munich's David Alaba has also been linked with a move to the Camp Nou, although Barca are unlikely to match the German giants' valuation of the Austrian star.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have now identified United's Matteo Darmian as one of two possible alternatives to the aforementioned duo, with Augsburg's Philipp Max being the other.
Darmian is entering the final year of his contract with the Red Devils, and the club is reportedly willing to offload the Italian international for around €10 million (R158 million), an amount that appeals to Barca.
The 29-year old is capable of playing on both flanks and was recently linked with a move to reigning Serie A champions Juventus.

Darmian joined United in 2015 and has made 92 appearances for the club since, but featured only seven times across all competitions last season.
