Just days after making history with Spain, FC Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati, who was born in Guinea-Bissau, has revealed how he found out he had received his first international call-up.
Fati became the second-youngest player ever to feature for Spain's U21 side earlier in the week, but was only part of the team after Barca teammate Carles Perez withdrew due to injury.
The 16-year-old starlet has now revealed how he received the news that he had received a maiden call-up for his adoptive nation.
"I was in the car on my way to eat with some friends and my father phoned me to tell me I had been called up," he told the Spanish Football Association.
"I asked him when I had to leave and he told me it was that evening so I went back to the house, changed and then went to Madrid.
"I was a little surprised because I didn't expect it.
"I thank the Spanish FA because they put in a lot of effort so that I could be here. It's a matter of pride and an honour to be here and I'm going to give my all to make people happy."
Fati is one of 20 finalists for the 2019 Golden Boy award and will become the first ever African-born winner of the award should he lift the title.
