African-Born Starlet Makes History For Spain

African-Born Starlet Makes History For Spain

FC Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati, who was born in Guinea-Bissau, continued his remarkable rise when he made history for Spain on Tuesday night.

Fati recently put an end to speculation surrounding his international future when he confirmed that he would represent his adoptive nation Spain over his country of birth.

The Barcelona starlet consolidated that decision on Tuesday, when he made his debut for the La Furia Roja's U21 side against Montenegro, and in doing so wrote his name into the nation's history books.

Upon taking to the field as a second-half replacement for Marc Cucurella, and at the age of 16 years and 11 months, Fati became the second-youngest player ever to feature for Spain's U21s, according to Marca.

Former Blaugrana wonderkid Bojan Krkic holds the all-time record, having debuted for the national youth side at the age of 16 years and nine months back in 2007.

Fati's latest achievement caps an impressive week for the diminutive forward, during which he was also named among the 20 finalists for the 2019 Golden Boy award.
