An African legend has been appointed to his first managerial role as he takes the reins at English championship side Wigan Athletic.
African Star Makes World Cup History For Ghana
Kolo Toure has become the first African international ever to be chosen as a senior English football club's manager, as per Goal.
Leam Ricardson was recently sacked by the Latics following an eight-game winless run, with the Championship strugglers having now appointed 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winner Toure as the new man in their dugout.
"We are delighted that Kolo has become the new manager of Wigan Athletic Football Club, and the Board are pleased that he is the man to take us forward," chief executive Malachy Brannigan said via the club's official website.
"We received a high calibre of applicants for the manager's job in recent weeks, in a very thorough recruitment process as we looked to appoint the right person for the role."
Before his new job, the former Arsenal centre-back was working under Brendan Rodgers as his assistant coach at Leicester City.
The Ivorian has been an apprentice to the Northern Irishman since he was manager of Glasgow Celtic, but will now take charge of his own team.
