The playoff stage of the Europa League concluded on Thursday evening, with the teams that finished runners-up in their groups, as well as those who dropped down from the UEFA Champions League, looked to make sure their respective European seasons continued.
The Rossoneri were perhaps the most prestigious club contesting for a spot in the next round, and despite losing 3-2 to Stade Rennais on Thursday night, Milan still managed to progress courtesy of a 5-3 aggregate victory.
Since the competition was renamed from the UEFA Cup, the Italian outfit has never made it past this stage, and during this 2023/24 edition of the tournament, they are going to have to contend with Slavia Praha to remedy that, who progressed after topping Group G.
The Reds managed to top their group and subsequently bypassed the playoff stage. In their first knockout stage encounter they will be facing Sparta Praha.
This is Jurgen Klopp's final season at Anfield and having made the final of this competition in his first season in charge, he will be looking to go one step further during his last campaign on Merseyside.
