Date: 12 March 2015
Venue: Goodison Park
Romelu Lukaku scored a late penalty to hand Everton a 2-1 win over Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 tie.
The visitors took a deserved lead in the 14th minute, as Oleh Husyev brilliantly turned home Andriy Yarmolenko's corner at the near post.
Romelu Lukaku nearly hit back for Everton in the 36th minute but the Belgian striker's powerful free-kick sailed inches over the crossbar.
Roberto Martinez's side did manage to draw themselves level before the halftime break, as Lukaku showed great strength before teeing up Steven Naismith, who slotted into the far corner.
Naismith could have given Everton the lead shortly after the halftime break but he steered his header wide of the mark from close range.
Yarmolenko proved to be a tricky customer for the Everton defence and he nearly restored Kyiv's lead in the 68th minute with a powerful effort that sailed inches over the crossbar.
Everton grew in confidence as the second half went and were eventually awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, which Lukaku dispatched for his seventh goal in the competition.
Martinez's side will now travel to the Lobanovsky Dynamo stadium in a weeks time for the second leg clash, knowing a draw or a win will see them through to the next round.
