The 25-year-old suffered a broken nose late on in Les Bleus' 1-0 win over Austria in Group D on Monday night.
Mbappe, captain of Didier Deschamps' side, needed to be taken off following a collision with Austrian centre-back Kevin Danso, and questions remain over his participation in France's coming games.
The French Football Federation (FFF) said in a statement that Mbappe will wear a face mask "after a period of treatment" amid rumours he could only return should Les Bleus make it to the knockout stage of the showpiece.
President of the FFF, Philippe Diallo, has since admitted it is "too soon to know" if the Real Madrid superstar will be able to feature again in Germany.
"The first responses were quite positive as there is no surgery planned for the moment," he said, according to Independent.
"Now it is too soon to know if he will be able to play for the remainder of the tournament, or to provide a schedule for his situation.
"Obviously there were some medical examinations performed on site to know more about Kylian Mbappe's nose and they made some conclusions pretty quickly.
"They tried to reduce the aftermath of his fracture, for him to be able to remain in the tournament.
"As I said, there is no surgery planned for the moment and we are still waiting for things to evolve later in order to know more about the conditions of his participation in the remainder of the tournament."
