Yamal made more history in that encounter after finding the back of the net to become the tournament's youngster scorer ever.
Ahead of Sunday's final, the 16-year-old revealed Mbappe asked for his jersey after the semi-final.
"Mbappe asked for [my shirt against France], well, a kit man in the locker room, and [Federico] Chiesa on Italy day," Yamal told Marca.
"The kit men tell me who wants it. If Mbappe asks me for it, I'll give it to him [laughs].
"No problem. I don't know what I have.
"When we won against France I was thinking about the final, you're so excited that you don't remember."
Spain are going in search of their third European Championship title after winning in 2008 and 2012, while the Three Lions are looking to get the first after losing to Italy in the final three years ago.
