Man Utd's Top Four Push Dented After Thrilling Draw

Manchester United's disappointing form in the Premier League continued after drawing 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Premier League

Result: Manchester United 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 14 January 2024

Venue: Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag made one change from the win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, as Christian Eriksen replaced Scott McTominay, while Spurs gave a debut to Timo Werner in place of Heung-min Son who is at the Asia Cup.

The Red Devils got off to the perfect start when Rasmus Hojlund when pounced on a loose ball in the box and sent a powerful strike into the roof of the net after just three minutes.

The visiting looked to get back on level terms and were rewarded on 18 minutes when Richarlison continued his fine form by nodding home Pedro Porro's corner.

Ange Postecoglou's charges took control after that as the Red Devils found it tough to hold on to the bal, but the away side let themselves down with their final pass.

United, however, restored their lead five minutes before the break when Rashford combined with Hojlund before calmly slotting into the far corner to end his goal drought.

Spurs came back on level terms immediately after the break when Rodrigo Bentancur ran onto a pass from Werner before rifling the ball beyond Andre Onana for his first goal of the campaign.

Ten Hag made a couple changes around the hour mark as McTominay replaced Eriksen in midfield, while Lisandro Martinez made his long-awaited return by coming on for Jonny Evans.

After a waves of passing without clear-cut chances, United could have taken the lead in second-half stoppage time but McTominay steered his header over the crossbar from close range.

The Red Devils have now registered just one win in their last five Premier League encounters.
