City's ongoing legal fight with the Premier League could stretch into the 2024/25 season after being hit with a significant delay.
The reigning champions are currently embroiled in a complex dispute with the Premier League after being hit with 130 charges, which were formally confirmed in February 2023.
The charges centre around alleged breaches of the Premier League's Financial Fair Play regulations.
An independent commission was set up to investigate the matter, with hearings officially commencing in September. These were initially expected to last between 10 and 12 weeks.
However, reports now suggest the case is facing considerable delays, meaning it could extend into next season.
According to The Sun, the proceedings have been paused, with final arguments yet to be made by lawyers.
These closing submissions are scheduled to begin next month and could take up to two weeks. Legal experts suggest that the independent commission may need several months to thoroughly review the evidence presented by both parties.
Once a verdict is reached, it is expected to be accompanied by a detailed written explanation, which could total as much as 400 pages.
