At the start of the 2023, Chelsea made 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez the most expensive player in EPL history.

The west Londoners paid a staggering €121 million (R2.3 billion) to Benfica to sign the Argentine playmaker, but the 23-year-old has struggled to live up to the price tag since his record-breaking arrival.

Coming in at a time when he there was a tremendous state of flux under Graham Potter, he managed to play regularly under Mauricio Pochettino.

At the start of the 2024/25 season, his compatriot was replaced by Enzo Maresca, who is understood to prefer a double pivot which includes Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, leaving Fernandez to start from the bench in their last three league matches.

It is believed that the San Martin native wants to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge. However, will not be keen to stay in the English capital if he continues to fall down the pecking order.

According to The Sun, these latest developments have put major clubs on high-alert and now the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan are monitoring the 2024 Copa America winner's situation with a view of potentially bringing him in.

Luring the central midfielder away from Stamford Bridge will not be easy given that significant amount of money Chelsea spent on him, as well as the fact that he has a contract which runs until 2032.
