The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has announced that they are not planning a special tribute for Lionel Messi in case he breaks the La Liga all-time scoring record against Real Madrid.
Messi is only one goal short of Telmo Zarra's record with 251 goals and could reach the milestone in the El Clasico at the Bernabeu on Saturday.
It was suggested that Messi would receive a special tribute if he breaks the record, but it seems the REFE hasn't planned anything.
"We haven't even considered it," a RFEF spokesperson as quoted by Marca.
"No one has approached us about anything. We haven't received any requests from Barcelona. We know that the idea has been mooted in the press, but we aren't considering staging anything.
"I don't even know if it's within the rules. It's something that's never come up before."
World football's governing body, FIFA, has also made it clear that the decision on any tribute lies with the RFEF.
"It's an internal matter," a FIFA spokesperson noted.
"It's up to the local federation. There's nothing specific in the rules about it."
Messi has scored 250 La Liga goals for Barcelona, while Telmo Zarra had scored his 251 for Athletic Bilbao between 1940 and 1955.
