Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, revealed that he planned on substituting his superstar duo during the match against Ajax Amsterdam and believes any of his players could start in this weekend's El Clasico.
Enrique, insisted he is brave enough to make big decisions and explained he substituted Messi and Neymar during their Champions League game to keep them fresh for this weekend's fixture against Real Madrid.
"I planned to replace the two players and I'd do it again," he told Marca.
"I'm brave and I try to make decisions that help the team."
The Spaniard, who took over from Gerardo Martino this season, went onto add that he is satisfied with everyone in his squad and anyone could get called into action this weekend.
"If playing players of the quality I have is suffering, then bring on the suffering," he added
"The way things are at the moment, I think any player could start at the Bernabéu."
Enrique will be in charge of his first El Clasico as a manager but made 207 appearances for Barcelona as a player after joining them from Real Madrid.
