For the second time in the space of less than a week, Los Blancos will host rivals Barca, but on Saturday they will be gunning for revenge after suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday night.
Since 2004, Barca have secured a staggering 11 victories in their arch-rivals' backyard, and a number of those games were inspired by individual moments of brilliance by various big-name players. Here are five of them, as per Marca:
Ronaldinho
The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year marked a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Real in November 2005 with arguably one the finest ever individual displays seen in an El Clasico.
After Samuel Eto'o had given the visitors the lead after 15 minutes, Ronaldinho turned on the magic, scoring two solo efforts that left former shot-stopper Iker Casillas and skipper Sergio Ramos rather embarrassed. In fact, after scoring his second, Los Blancos fans rose to their feet to give the former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain star a standing ovation.
Xavi
In 2009, Barcelona clinched all six titles available to them, but it was their 6-2 demolition of Real at the Bernabeu that had everybody's tongues wagging.
While the clash will be fondly remembered for Pep Guardiola's decision to deploy Lionel Messi as a "false nine", it was Xavi who had the biggest influence on the result, registering a whopping four assists – two for Messi and one each for Carles Puyol and Thierry Henry.
Gerard Pique
The Spain international defender also enjoyed a near-flawless performance in the 6-2 thumping of Real at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009.
Before Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Los Blancos, Pique was tasked with stopping the likes of Arjen Robben, Gonzalo Higuain and Raul in a LaLiga El Clasico.
Not only did the centre-back thwart the abovementioned dangermen, but the former Manchester United defender also managed to get his name on the scoresheet to cap off both a brilliant individual and team performance.
Lionel Messi
Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi has the most assists (14) and goals scored (26) in the history of El Clasico, but his most memorable moment arguably came in the 2016/17 campaign.
With the score deadlocked at 2-2 and with the game heading for a stalemate, Messi stepped up in the last minutes, displaying his big-match temperament to score the winner and his second goal of the day in the dying moments of the clash, and then celebrated by taking off his shirt and holding it up in front of the home crowd.
Luis Suarez
The Uruguayan talisman is the latest Barca player to haunt Real in their own backyard, with the former Liverpool star taking his El Clasico tally to 11 goals after netting a brace in the Blaugrana's 3-0 victory over Real in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
