The rivalry between the two LaLiga giants is one of the biggest in world football. Over the years, there have been several eye-catching moments in the encounters between the two Spanish giants.
Whether it be individual moments of brilliance aiding victory or moments of madness that led to the demise of either Barca or Los Blancos, El Clasico has experienced it all. Here are some incidents from the famous fixture that led to heated bust-ups in recent times.
With Real two goals down against Barca in a LaLiga encounter in November 2010, five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo lost his cool with Barca coach Guardiola.
The former Manchester United star had attempted to retrieve the ball from the tactician, but Guardiola flicked it away from him, resulting in a shove from the Portuguese which then led to a brawl.
Barcelona would have the last laugh, though, running out 5-0 victors to humiliate Jose Mourinho on his El Clasico debut.
Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos never strays too far from controversy. The Spain skipper, who holds the record for the active footballer with the most red cards (five) in El Clasico history, took matters into his own hands at the Camp Nou in November 2010.
With his team five goals down and Barca fans cheering "Ole!" with every pass, the defender clearly had enough and received his marching orders for a dirty tackle on Messi. In the aftermath of his dismissal, Ramos put his hands on Barcelona legends Carlos Puyol and Xavi too.
One of the most disgraceful incidents on this list belongs to former Manchester United manager Mourinho.
In 2011, during a Spanish Super Cup El Clasico, matters got quite heated when Marcelo landed a dirty scissor-tackle on Barca midfielder Cesc Fabregas, which led to a touchline scuffle between the two sides.
Mourinho was infamously caught eye-gouging then Barca assistant coach Tito Vilanova, who subsequently shoved him back.
Barca, however, had the last laugh, securing a famous 5-4 victory on aggregate in the feisty two-legged affair to clinch their 10th Super Cup title.
Other infamous El Clasico bust-ups include an incident involving Ballon d'Or winner Rivaldo and Real stalwart Fernando Hierro in a feisty affair in 2001, and when Portuguese defender Pepe purposefully stamped on Messi's hand – click through the gallery above to see the eight of the biggest bust-ups between Barca and Los Blancos!
